How to defeat MAGA
Obviously, like anything else in life, there is no easy solution. But, if you want to start now, you have to do this: stop pretending it is antithetical to America. MAGA is a symptom of America.
It is a movement that runs on selfishness, greed, vanity, anti-intellectualism and bigotry. And those things were already rampant beforehand.
What, you expect us to believe every American before MAGA was an erudite, accepting, humble and selfless individual? You don’t believe that many Americans could be the exact opposite? You don’t realise that was how the world stereotyped Americans?
If American society was truly healthy prior, how did the MAGA movement spread like wildfire all over the country? If the body was entirely healthy, how did the cancer spread so quickly?
And let’s not pretend slavery and racism are ancient history in the US. The last (alleged) survivors of slavery survived into the 1970’s. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was enforced in — as the name suggests- in 1964, which means we still many living people who lived through Jim Crow, both the oppressors and those who endured the oppression.
Most importantly, the KKK never cease to exist and, even before MAGA, Neo-Nazism was already a significant fringe movement within the US. Bigotry never died out in the US.
Non-Americans who proudly declare themselves as US allies are not any better.
Why are you surprised the world’s only superpower country which has military bases all over the world and often dictates other countries in global affairs ends up openly and proudly shouting “America First” slogan on the world stage?
Why are you surprised the bully whose behaviours you have enabled and been complicit of for many years…. ends up bullying you?
Almost no countries on earth are as rich and powerful as the USA and yet, not all of us venerate the country. We believe we can trade and form diplomatic relations with the US without having our foreign policies dictated by it and having the size of our armed forces reduced to the point of ineffectiveness.
I can only assume why some countries become staunch US allies.
Maybe they genuinely feel owed to what the US did during the second world war and they feel the need to be excessive with the gratitude. Maybe they want to the global western hegemony to persist.
Or maybe, they are pathetic enough to be star-struck by more powerful countries.
No, I don’t have the exact solutions to defeat MAGA or any extremist ideologies for that matter. But, one thing I am certain about: you should start by not being in denial.
You should acknowledge MAGA is not an anomaly in America, it is a symptom of America.
If you want to defeat MAGA, take a hard look at the country’s foundations.
