Three reasons why we should be 100% cashless and digital
*puts on a mask*
Reason number one: It feels futuristic.
I don’t care if the utilisation of new technologies is sustainable and beneficial in the long run or not. I want to feel like I am already in the future, I want to be seen as futuristic. I hate feeling like a caveman and I definitely hate being seen as one.
Yes, if you are not eager to immediately embrace the latest techs, you are as open-minded as cavemen.
Reason number two: The infrastructures are perfect.
Cashlessness and digitalisation are foolproof because electric and network outages never happen. Seriously, show me at least one example of electric or network outages that disrupt people’s daily lives.
That’s right, you cannot think of a single one. The infrastructures all over the world are absolutely perfect. Concern about outages is just an excuse to retain your caveman lifestyle.
And yes, hacking and government surveillances are also myths. They only exist in escapist and light entertainment.
Reason number three: It is exclusionary.
Inclusivity and accessibility are already an issue within our respective societies. Banks often have minimum balance policies. If bureaucracy is burdensome, imagine if you are illiterate and/or do not possess any formal documents about your own life. The more rural a place is, the more lacking the infrastructures are. Ethnic, racial, religious and gender discriminations may also be rampant.
While it may not apply universally, it is safe to say your gender, ethnicities, religions, races, lack of education, lack of wealth and rural location may negatively affect your access to modern infrastructures.
And that’s why I am all for cashlessness and digitalisation: to make the already inaccessible infrastructures even more so. If they are implemented, your rural location and lack of education and wealth would be even bigger hindrances; not to mention, we can now exclude older people who have a relatively harder time dealing digital technology.
Why do I want to widen the inaccessibility? Well, to feel superior, of course.
The less people can properly participate in their respective societies, the more I can look down on them.
I don’t care if their disadvantages are caused by factors beyond their control. I want the feeling of being on top and having others way below me. That’s the only way I can feel empowered.
